All About Reiki

Reiki is a spiritual healing art with its roots in Japanese origin. The word Reiki comes from the Japanese word (Rei) which means “Universal Life” and (Ki) which means “Energy”. Reiki is not affiliated with any particular religion or religious practice. It is not massage nor is it based on belief or suggestion. It is a subtle and effective form of energy work using spiritually guided life force energy.

Reiki is the life energy that flows through all living things. Reiki Practitioners understand that everyone has the ability to connect with their own healing energy and use it to strengthen energy in themselves and help others. It is believed that a person’s “ki” or energy should be strong and free flowing. When this is true a person’s body and mind is in a positive state of health. When the energy becomes weak or blocked it could lead to symptoms of physical or emotional imbalance.

A Reiki session can help ease tension and stress and can help support the body to facilitate an environment for healing on all levels – physical, mental, and emotional. A session is pleasant and relaxing and is often utilized for one’s personal wellness.

About Me

Background and Training

I trained in Reiki with Masters in Canada and I am a Registered Reiki Master and Teacher (RMT) with the International Association of Reiki Professionals.  Reiki is incorporated into the many other therapies I provide, allowing for deeper healing for general wellness, stress reduction as well as for specific tension or pain problems.

Who Can Benefit

Reiki can be used for general wellness as well as for specific issues. Reiki works by assisting to reduce stress, which in turn may create an environment within your body where healing may more easily be facilitated. In my practice I have had great results with clients in working with problems related to stress, anxiety, excess tension build up and chronic pain. In addition to working with pain and tension problems, Reiki may be effective with people who suffer from chronic headaches, insomnia and problems of fatigue.

First Appointment - In Person

The first session begins with a brief interview and client intake form. You are asked a series of questions so that I may plan the most beneficial session/series of sessions for your needs. Please keep in mind that privacy and confidentiality are maintained at all times. I subscribe to the IARP Code of Ethics as posted in my treatment room. A Reiki session is performed on a massage table and you, the client, are always fully clothed.

A Reiki session may start with the client lying face up resting comfortably. I will complete the standard Reiki hand positions. If you indicate in the interview or at the beginning of the session that you wish for me to pay attention to a particular injury or issue, I will also concentrate on that area during the session. For a regular stress-reduction session, the head and torso are worked on first, followed by the back and sometimes the feet. Clients can ask for different parts of the body to be worked on, or not worked on, and are encouraged to discuss this with me at the beginning of the session.

During the session, clients are encouraged to relax and inform me if anything makes them uncomfortable, either physically or psychologically. Please feel free to talk with me regarding feedback during the session. I often will talk with you before or after, usually not during as I want you to relax fully during the session. If something feels uncomfortable during the session however, please speak up immediately; I want to know as soon as possible.

First Appointment - Distance

The first session begins with a brief interview by phone.  As above, you are asked a short series of questions so that I may plan for the best use of our time. At the scheduled time, you are to relax/lay down and I will begin treatment. Afterwards we have a conversation of what I have found, treatment details along with recommendations for home care.
