Quick Disclaimer

For the more sensiteeve reader, this post is about shit. Detailing the arc, texture and distance of my virgin adventure into the realm of colonics. I have decided to write this somewhat embarrassing entry in an attempt to get you thinking about the health of your holding tank. Think of this as a pre-holiday gift, a wish for you all to have epic evacuations throughout the holiday season. Oh, and it's a little longer than normal, so settle in and enjoy the tale.

Now the post.

Well friends, I've been mentally bunged up since my last post in September making this entry highly cathartic like a foot long release after Christmas dinner. Yes I just said that.

Truth is, gut health is so much more than good bacteria, hydration and digestive enzymes. Sure, taking care of how and what you eat should always be top of mind. But have you ever really thought about the effect that your thinking has on your body's ability to literally move shit out of the way?

Quick backgrounder: I've been through a lot this year. Some of which I have written about, other things I haven't as it has been a year of love, loss, heartbreak and renewal. As I travelled like a streak of grease lighting through it all, I learned the importance of sinking deeply into my body and letting go of my addiction to over think everything. Do you do that? That hamster wheel of what-ifs, fears, doubts and disbeliefs that sucker punches any possibility of momentum.

Worry, resentment, frustration and anger, just to name a few, are the villany of a good poop. Sure, you may get the runs from some intermittant anxiety or IBS, but these emotions that we all carry are designed to make sure you hold on to everything. Kind of like that creepy movie, The Grudge, yet I digress.

So as I began a journey of marinading in my juices, I realized the effect that my thoughts had on my gut. I needed to let go, feel better and admit that I needed some TLC. While cleansing is something I do a few times per year, I needed something different.

So what did I do you ask?

Colonics.

Colonics is a treatment where water is infused into the colon to irrigate intestinal tract for the removal of toxins and waste.

Me, waiting for the party to start.

Now if you are a neophyte in this land of opportunity, keep reading. I was a childish chicken shit when it came to the idea of this, until it became the only logical solution to address my health issues. Alien probing here I come.

As my gift to you, here is my experience with a few selected pics (no shit pics...that's just gross). Here is me as I wait for the party to start.

Beam Me Up - Prepping for Poop

So I got a great referral to a Hydrotherapist close to where I live, and scheduled my inaugural visit. (Important to note that there is a small list of foods and bevvies to avoid pre-procedure, so be sure to get that from your local before you start.) When I arrived she took her time with me, learning about my health concerns and pin pointed exactly what was going on. I adored her, so much so that I now affectionately refer to her as my Poop Whisperer (PW).

When it came time to prepare for my epic flushing, I was given this nifty little pair of disposable shorts. Note the little hole cut in the bum...such a discreet detail saving me from hanging my bare ass off the treatment bed. One always needs to keep it classy.

My PW applied heat and massaged castor oil into my stomach and reflex points on my feet to get the insides ready for what comes next.

The Very Close Encounter

Now that I am prepped and ready to roll, it's time you meet Buddy. Buddy is a complex and extremely gentle friend that manages both clean water and waste removal. He is magical, mysterious and a solid worker.

To get this party started, a small speculum was inserted into my ass that is connected to two separate hoses for Buddy to manage. This did NOT hurt (yes, I hear your jokes now. Just stop it and read on.)

Colonics (sometimes called hydrotherapy) gentles irrigates the large intestine (estimated to be ~6 feet long) and the small intestine (estimated the length of a football field) with water to remove waste that has literally stuck to the intestinal wall. Colonics has many benefits, some of which improves the ability to absorb nutrients from food and supplements, balances mood, clears up skin issues and can lessen back and joint pain.

As water was gently infused into my guts, the PW massaged my stomach and helped to get things moving until she switched a valve to release the waste. This steamy little dance continued for about an hour, causing no pain or discomfort at any time. I cannot believe how much poop was in there nor can I describe the euphoria of getting rid of all that shit I no longer needed. I was literally 'full of it'. As the waste proceeded through a clear tube under a light, my PW took the opportunity to give me insights into what my body does not digest well, what I might be intolerant to and how I can improve my wellness from the inside out.

Return to Earth

As my 2-hour journey of bonding over stool, fart jokes and hardcore curiousity ended, I was returned back to my elegant state without drama or accidents. Quite frankly, I felt nothing short of AMAZE-BALLS.

Aside from obviously feeling lighter, I had an overwhelming sense of calm, energy and physical comfort. The back pain I had been suffering from over the past year was gone and my entire body felt refreshed and in balance for the first time in a very long time.

The Moral of the Story

Open yourself up to trying something new, listen to your body and honour the interconnectedness between your thoughts and physical response. This IS how you level up in life, but you need to make the time to explore and to heal.

We all need to let that shit go!

Holiday blessings to all and good wishes for a happy and healthy gut!
