In Ayurveda, digestion is considered the cornerstone of health. When our agni (the digestive fire) is balanced, we experience lightness, clarity, and sustained energy. When it becomes weak or overheated, however, imbalance follows. This week, we’re sharing practical ways you can support your digestive system with everyday herbs and spices.
If Digestion Feels Sluggish or Heavy
Stimulating agni can help the body process food more efficiently. Ginger is one of Ayurveda’s most trusted digestive allies.
Try this simple ginger elixir before meals. Take these ingredients and put into a small blender.
Fresh ginger juice
A squeeze of lemon
A pinch of black pepper
A dash of salt
A touch of honey to balance the taste
Take one spoonful 10–15 minutes before eating, or chew a few slices of fresh ginger dipped in lemon juice. This small step can make a noticeable difference in digestive comfort.
If You’re Experiencing Heartburn or Acidity
Sometimes digestion runs too “hot.” In these cases, cooling herbs are recommended to calm and soothe.
Options include:
CCF Tea: Simmer equal parts cumin, coriander, and fennel seeds in water and sip warm.
Roasted fennel seeds: Chew a teaspoon after meals to ease excess heat.
Soothing drinks: Try aloe vera juice or licorice tea about 30 minutes after eating.
These remedies are simple, natural, and supportive by encouraging balance in the digestive system without overstimulation.
Give it a try! Like anything, the benefits are always found in being consistent. Allow this routine to demonstrate its benefits after a few weeks of practice.
